Eureka Network
The world’s biggest public network for international cooperation in R&D and innovation
Since 1985, Eureka has funded and supported the R&D and innovation of thousands of ground-breaking commercialised products, processes or services that have positively impacted economic growth and people’s lives.
Eureka is present in more than 45 countries and provides organizations and companies with the freedom to create their ideal consortium and decide the technological focus of its international R&D projects. The programmes are flexible and open to start-ups, SMEs, large companies, research organisations and universities.
The Portuguese Chairmanship of Eureka
Portugal is hosting the Chairmanship of Eureka from the 1st of July of 2021 until the 30th of June of 2022. This is not the first time the country has held the Chairmanship of Eureka: Portugal chaired Eureka in 1997-98 and in 2008-09, where it opened Eureka to Asia; first to China and, in 2009, to South Korea, which became an associated member.
As a founding member of Eureka, Portugal remains truly committed to its success as an international collaborative network for R&D and Innovation. Eureka ensures research and industry work together to develop new “close to the market” products and services using a flexible and dynamic model.
The Portuguese Chairmanship of the Eureka network in 2021-22 follows the Portuguese Chairmanship of the Council of the European Union (January-June 2021) and runs in parallel with the co-Chairmanship by Portugal of the Council of the European Space Agency (ESA) at Ministerial level.
The Portuguese Chairmanship strategy is reflected in the motto: “Innovation for a Greener, Digital and Healthier Planet through a collaborative approach” and wishes to contribute to the success of the Eureka network as a major tool to promote research and innovation, strengthening the bottom-up, open and flexible nature of the network by building up on the work done by the Austrian Chairmanship (2020-2021) while following the strategic priorities of the recently approved Eureka Strategic Roadmap for 2021-2027.
